Man dies after shooting firecracker from top of his head

(Scroll down for video) A man died in a tragic accident while he was playing with fireworks.

22-year-old Devon Staples was drinking with his friends when he launched a firecracker from the top of his head, killing him instantly, police said.

Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks in the backyard of a friend’s home in Maine, said Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the State Department of Public Safety.

Staples of Calais, placed the firecracker on the top of his head and told his friends he was going to light it, McCausland said.

His friends urged him to stop. “Devon was not the kind of person who would do something stupid. He was the type of person who pretends to do something stupid to make people laugh,” his brother, Cody Staples, 25, said.

Cody said that he was a few feet away when Devon lit the firecracker. Sadly, he died immediately in front of his horrified family and friends.

Nancy Acosta of Houston, died after her car crashed into oncoming traffic on Thursday afternoon. Acosta, a mother of three children, caught her husband Freddy with his mistress at home before the accident. According to the police investigation, Acosta followed the car of her husband and began to slide sideways while attempting to run him and his mistress off the road. She died at the scene. The driver of the other car was taken to a nearby hospital, and is said to be in critical condition. The husband and his mistress were not injured. Father chokes his son because he wanted to be free to marry another woman

Sapporo police said that they have arrested 31-year-old Tsubasa Suzuki, after being accused of trying to strangle his 9-year-old son in his car. According to the police investigation, Suzuki, a divorced father of one child, was waiting in his car for his son outside school on Monday afternoon. Around 3:00 p.m., the father persuaded his son (, who lives with his mother,) to get into his car. On the way home, Suzuki stopped the car on the side of the road and began choking his son. Luckily, the father had second thoughts and let his son go. The boy suffered minor injuries. During questioning, Suzuki told police that the child and his mother were obstacles for him to marry another woman and he wanted both out of the way.
